The Phillies are shut out at Connie Mack Stadium in Philadelphia before 20,067 fans. John Tsitouris wins his 8th game of the year, against 11 losses, as he strikes out 8 and gives up 6 hits over a complete 9 innings. Art Mahaffey starts for Philadelphia and lasts 6 2/3 innings, giving up the only run in the game, on 6 hits. The run is scored when Chico Ruiz steals home with 2 outs in the top of the 6th inning. Bobby Locke and Bobby Shantz pitch 2 1/3 combined shutout innings in relief of Mahaffey, who takes the loss, bringing his record on the year to 12 and 9. Frank Robinson is 2 for 4 for the Reds, as is Wes Covington for the Phillies. Covington's hits are both doubles, his 17th and 18th of the year. Dick Allen also doubles, his 34th, for Philadelphia. Marty Keough doubles (8th) for the Reds, their only extra base hit. The Reds have 7 hits, 1 error, and leave 7. The Phillies have 6 hits, 0 errors, and leave 8.
