The 1951 National League pennant race was perhaps the most famous one of all, and
culminated with the Shot Heard
'Round the World, the famous Bobby Thomson home run. We are posting a daily blog, exactly one year to the day, on what is now the 60th anniversary of each game.
June 23: As a result of both a Dodger and Giant win yesterday, the Dodger lead stands at 6 games on the morning of Saturday, June 23rd.

Cubs 7, Giants 4
The Giants are facing the 7th place Chicago Cubs in a day game at Wrigley Field. Leo Durocher is the
manager for the Giants and Frankie Frisch for the Cubs. Turk Lown, with a record of 0
and 4, is pitching for the Cubs. Larry Jansen, at 9 and 5, is going for the Giants. The Cubs amass
16 hits in the game. Phil Cavarretta is 4 for 4 for the Cubs. Randy Jackson is 2 for 5 and
hits his 6th home run of the year. Lown is 2 for 4 in the game, helping his own cause. In
the only bright spot for the Giants, Willie Mays knocks in 3 runs, going 3 for 4 in the game,
including his 6th home run of the year. The Giants use 5 pitchers in the game. Lown goes 7 1/3 innings for the Cubs. Frank Hiller pitches the final 1 2/3 innings.

the Dodgers are facing the last place Pittsburgh Pirates.
Chuck Dressen is the manager for the Dodgers and Billy Meyer for the Pirates, who have lost 5 straight. Don Newcombe at 8 wins and 4
