On this day, Alex Rodriguez, at 32 years, 8 days, becomes the youngest player ever to reach 500 career home runs. He does so in the 1st inning ,with a 3-run blast off Kyle Davies of the Kansas City Royals, at Yankee Stadium. Jimmie Foxx had the previous record at 32 years, 337 days when he hit his 500th on Sept. 24, 1940. A-Rod goes 3 for 4 in this game, and brings his yearly total to 36 HR's and 108 RBI's. He ends the year with a league-leading 54 home runs and 156 RBI's, as well as winning the AL's Most Valuable Player award. See HR
