I took my grandfather to what turned out to be the last game he ever attended (he took me to my first game at Wrigley Field several years earlier). Don Kessinger was one of my Cubs Favorites in the past, and this turned out to be his last game in the majors, as player/manager on the Sox. The next day, he was replaced by Tony LaRussa who was on the Cubs roster when we saw them play the Dodgers all those years previously. After the game, Yankees star Thurman Munson died in a plane crash. When the season ended, Bill Veeck (who was in the bleachers at that earlier Cubs-Dodgers game) sold the Sox, the last team he owned, for the last time.
