I was 15 and about to start my sophomore year in high school in Madison, Wisconsin when my dad and mom took me to County Stadium to see the Braves and Brooklyn Dodgers. Our seats were about 8 or 10 rows behind third base and the Brooklyn dugout. Two things have stood out all these years. First, Jackie Robinson engaged in a pregame argument with a white fan seated near us. I saw and heard him clearly. Then, in the course of the shouting, Robinson looked up and faced Milwaukee pitcher Lew Burdette standing in the first base dugout who was yelling at him. Then, late in the game, in the 8th inning, it was 3-3 when Brooklyn filled the bases and Roy Campanella, batting around .200 and playing with at least one broken finger, ca me up. Campy cleared the bases with a solid smash to right center. Unable to run,
