My first game! I was 8 and a passionate Dodgers fan. The only thing I didn't remember correctly was I thought The Duke had batted 8th, not 6th. It was, I think, the first game he had batted as low as #6 in the lineup, and he got one of the 2 hits against Antonelli. I can still see Mays' HR barely going over the CF fence--and, I swear, I knew at age 8 that he was a future Hall of Famer.
My father belonged to a men's group, which traveled to Jersey City to see the game. No son, so he took his daughter-me. I think I was the only girl on the trip, but couldn't have cared less. I was finally going to a Dodgers game!!
When the Dodgers announced they were moving to LA the next year-talk about disilllusionment. I'd been a Dodgers fan my whole life--or since age 7, 2 years earlier.
