There's no reason the White Sox should have stayed in the race as long as they did . . . but this was one of the games that kind of made you believe it could happen.

I was 10 years old at the time, my first year as a baseball fan, and I can remember the excitement of that season. Nowadays, 1967 tends to only be associated with the Red Sox, but for fans of all four teams in that summer's pennant race, it was spell-binding.

The White Sox held their own against the better clubs; what's unfortunate was that they lost their last five games of the season, a doubleheader against mediocre Kansas City and then a three-game series to last-place Washington. Had they won four of those games, it would have been the rebirth of the hitless wonder White Sox that would have been remembered from that summer.
