My grandfather took me to my first game. It was hot in the sun, and cool in the shade, so we moved back and forth from the sun to under the scoreboard in the bleachers. You could do that in those days. Gramp revisited a conversation with a chain-smoking one-legged man all afternoon. It turned out that the guy ran the Sox when I took Gramp to his last game at Comiskey Park years later. The day after that, Tony LaRussa (who was on the Cubs roster that day in '68) took over for Don Kessinger (who started at short vs. the Dodgers that day) as manager of the Sox.

Of course, we knew none of this, either time. We just loved baseball, and sharing it, and this was a particularly golden day in what turned out to be the end of an era. It's colored my appreciation of baseball ever since.
