I was at that game. Robinson disappeared into the stands when he made the catch and emerged holding the ball high. Umpire ruled a catch and the fans went ballistic. When game 2 started, fans were throwing things at Robinson and the PA announcer had to insist they stop, which they eventually did. Yanks won game 2.

I recall watching game 1 of this 6/21/1966 doubleheader at Yankee Stadium on TV, it's the bottom of the 9th, Orioles ahead 7-5, there's 2 out and the Yanks have 2 runners on base. Roy White hits a deep fly to right, and Frank Robinson goes back to the short bleacher wall they had back then, jumps up, the ball goes into his glove, and he falls into the stands among presumably all Yankee fans, and out of sight. Yet he gets up and emerges from the stands with the ball. The umpire calls White out, and Yanks manager Ralph Houk is livid arguing the call. But what I most remember was the call of O's longtime announcer Chuck Thompson. He first called it a catch after the ump's initial ruling, but the best thing that I distinctly recall Thompson saying during the ensuing Houk tirade, while awaiting an official ruling, "The game is over, but I'm not sure who won."
