1 First game at Yankee Stadium II

I attended this game. At the time, it was understood that this was a very hot ticket because it was the first game ever played in what was further understood to be a brand new stadium built from the ground up. The original Yankee Stadium, along with the copper frieze, had been torn down a couple of years before.

This understanding continued for decades and then faded from memory. Boy was I surprised to find, mostly in the post-strike years, that this stadium had magically morphed into "the original Yankee Stadium." All the events of the dynasty era had somehow taken place in "this" ballpark. How quickly we forget.
